A quiet holiday. Good time for a short trip as Chinese New Year travel has not yet started.

Chinese New Year (Spring Festival) (2025-01-29)

Chinese New Year 2025 begins on January 29, marking the Year of the Snake. The official holiday runs for 7 days. Many factories close for 2–4 weeks.

China's busiest travel season. Book flights and hotels 2–3 months ahead. Expect significant price increases.

Qingming Festival (Tomb Sweeping Day) (2025-04-04)

Qingming (清明节) falls on April 4 in 2025. Families visit ancestral graves and parks are popular for outdoor activities during this spring holiday.

Spring weather makes this a good time to visit scenic areas in southern China.

Labour Day (2025-05-01)

Labour Day Golden Week runs May 1–5 in 2025. One of China's three main travel holidays attracting over 200 million domestic trips.

Book accommodation and transport at least 2 months ahead for popular destinations.

Dragon Boat Festival (2025-05-31)

Dragon Boat Festival falls on May 31 in 2025, the 5th day of the 5th lunar month. Features boat races and zongzi (sticky rice dumplings).

City waterfronts and parks are lively. Good chance to experience traditional Chinese culture.

National Day Golden Week (2025-10-01)

National Day marks the 76th anniversary of the People's Republic of China in 2025. The 7-day Golden Week holiday runs October 1–7.

One of the busiest travel weeks in human history. Plan well in advance or choose less-visited destinations.

Mid-Autumn Festival (2025-10-06)

Mid-Autumn Festival in 2025 falls on October 6, overlapping with the tail of National Day Golden Week, creating an unusually long combined holiday.

2025 sees Mid-Autumn overlap with National Day. Expect extra-heavy travel congestion during this combined period.

Golden Week & Travel Planning

China has two major Golden Week holiday periods — Chinese New Year (January/February) and National Day (1–7 October). During these periods, hundreds of millions of people travel within China. Book accommodation and transport months in advance if you plan to travel during Golden Week.
